High-tech implants are the main topic of the COMPAMED Spring Convention

The COMPAMED Spring Convention is the annual expert meeting for developers, producers and users in the field of medical practice. The next event on May 3, 2018 at Frankfurt Airport will focus on new technical possibilities for implants in medical technology.

Developments in microsystems technology reveal various possibilities in the field of implants. The combination of miniaturization and digitalization results in increasingly innovative products. Implants monitor, take over or control active body functions as well as dispense medication or facilitate medical care.

The latest technologies enable more precise and unique applications and are used for stents and vessel prosthetics, cochlear- and retina implants as well as for defibrillators, medication dosage systems and neuro surgical implants.

Especially active implants are using the latest discoveries from the fields of micro and nanotechnology. These include sensors that measure vital signs or actuators, such as pumps or motors. Digitalization enables innovative developments like new production processes such as 3D printing of personalized implants as well as the controlling of implants through concepts from the fields of “Deep Learning” and “Artificial Intelligence”.

The upcoming COMPAMED Spring Convention will consist of four sessions: technologies for the production of implants, packaging for implants, materials for medical implants and microtechnology in medical applications.

The focus is on materials for implants (e.g. silicone, metals, glass encapsulation, biodegradable materials), new production technologies (e.g. 3D printing of personalized implants, generating biocompatible surfaces), components (e.g. energy supply, sensors, actuators, dosage systems), applications for palliative care, nerve stimulation, prosthetics and dental implants. Furthermore, the experts will give an outlook on future developments.

The conference offers a preview of COMPAMED, Europe’s largest fair for suppliers of medical manufacturing, which takes place in Düsseldorf every autumn. It will be organized by the IVAM Microtechnology Network, supported by Messe Düsseldorf.
