Active Wiper Die – Prevention of wrinkles in pipe bending

The invention relates to bending tools for tube bending,

including a mandrel. Wrinkles frequently form on the inside of the bend, especially for pipes with thin walls and narrow bend radii. These wrinkles even occur when a bending mandrel is inserted into the pipe to support the bend. The thinner the pipe wall and the smaller the bend radius in relation to the pipe diameter, the greater the fold formation. Bending process can now be actively influenced using the newly invented tool. It has been proved that fold formation during the bending process can be effectively inhibited as a result of the invention. The overrun of material on the inside of the pipe bend is halted (prevented) by a specially developed tool with a bead.
