Siemens constructs three new high-bay warehouses for AUMA Riester

In order to bring warehouse capacity into line with increased production, the company contracted Siemens Industry Solutions to build three new high-bay warehouses at its Wenden, Ostfildern and Mullheim locations in Germany. Siemens is in charge of shelving construction and will also provide materials handling and control technology. The contract is worth just under €2 million.

Construction of all three warehouses is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

AUMA is expanding its warehouse capacities due to growing production. To accommodate this, two new high-bay warehouses for pallets and mesh pallets will be built in Wenden and Ostfildern and an automated small parts warehouse will be added in Mullheim. In all three new buildings, Siemens is responsible for shelving construction and will provide the storage and retrieval machines for loading equipment as well as related pallet and bin conveyor technology. A control system based on Simatic S7 will be used to manage the materials handling and warehouse equipment at all three locations.

Siemens will also install the Logition WMS warehouse management system. Based on the latest Microsoft software technology, it records, organizes and analyzes the entire production process. Warehouse processes can thereby be continually improved and resources used more efficiently. Up-to-date information on inventory is available at all times, which helps shorten lead times.

Central plant visualization from Simatic WinCC provides a map of system components. It allows the operating states of individual conveying elements and storage and retrieval machines to be monitored and manually modified in response to malfunctions. Mobile panels are planned for displaying faults and manual operations. Siemens is also responsible for the installation and startup of all components, as well as training the warehouse personnel.

This is not the first project for AUMA: Siemens modernized AUMA’s 13 year old pallet warehouse in Mullheim in 2006 and added an aisle extension in 2009.
