14th IFF Science Days in Magdeburg: Where Business and Research Meet

How important will the digital factory be for industrial production? What technologies are enabling us to work hand-in-hand with robots in manufacturing and the world around us? Can we make our global logistics operations even more secure, reliable and efficient? Experts and prominent guests from industry and research will be discussing current issues and development trends in a wide variety of sectors at numerous events and workshops during the 14th IFF Science Days in Magdeburg.

Focus on Digital Technologies for Efficient Production
One focus will be digital technologies. Their full integration in production is becoming an increasingly crucial factor in corporate competition. Therefore, this year’s “Digital Engineering” conference will focus on the “Digital Factory in the Product and Production Equipment Life Cycle”. Among other issues, means of profitably implementing digital and virtual tools throughout the entire industrial chain of operations will be examined. What advances have been made in the development and implementation of new software tools and what must companies do to profit from them?
Logistics Days: “Secure, Reliable and Sustainable Logistics”
During the IFF Science Days, the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF and the Institute of Logistics and Material Handling Systems at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg will be jointly hosting the “Magdeburg Logistics Days”. This year’s motto is “Secure, Reliable and Sustainable Logistics”. Among other things, speakers and attendees will be discussing the challenges of “Future Mobility” and solutions for “Energy Efficient Infrastructures”. Another focus will be the opportunities and potentials for the development of new intelligent localization and navigation solutions at the Galileo Test Bed that opened in Saxony-Anhalt last year.
Safe Human-Robot Interaction
The “Safe Human-Robot Interaction” conference on June 30, 2011 will focus on one of the key issues of current research in robotics, namely direct interaction and cooperation between humans and robots. Discussion will especially focus on new safety concepts and technologies, which affect the safety and routine usability of robots in workplaces shared with humans in the industrial, domestic or healthcare sectors, for instance.
Cooperation in Plant Engineering
The Cooperation in Plant Engineering Industry Working Group will also be convening during the 14th IFF Science Days. At these regularly held meetings, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises exchange their views on and experiences with methods and trends of collaborative partnerships as a factor for success in plant manufacturing.
