Siemens wins Airbus order for factory maintenance in Toledo
Siemens is set to handle maintenance work on the production systems at the Airbus factory in Illescas (Toledo province) that specializes in manufacturing aircraft components made of composite materials.
The contract with one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers is of strategic importance for Siemens, paving the way for the company to enter the Spanish aerospace market.
The agreement, which will run initially for three years with the option of a two-year extension, represents a kind of pilot project that may well be applied to other Airbus locations worldwide.
The Siemens Customer Services Division is now responsible for preventive and predictive maintenance at the Airbus plant in Illescas as well as for the repair of production facilities and spare parts management. The aim is to ensure maximum availability of the installations, based on innovative service methods and processes from Siemens which will reduce the risk of outages.
The plant in Illescas is one of Airbus' most modern production facilities for largescale complex carbon-reinforced components. By applying innovative systems, special machinery and production processes, the plant located in the province of Toledo makes aircraft components for different series, including civilian aircraft such as the A320, A380 and A350.
The maintenance of high-tech installations and systems is both a complex and important task, particularly in an area as specialized as the aerospace industry. Siemens provides bespoke Industry Services throughout the entire production process and lifecycle of plants and products that help companies to increase their productivi-ty and efficiency.
