Method for the Detection of Dysfunctional High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) prior to the administration of HDL raising drugs

The invention describes a new method for the detection of dysfunctional High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) prior to the administration of HDL raising drugs. HDL from patients with mild to severe CKD, is specifically associated with a component of human blood plasma which alters the endothelial effects of HDL. This novel pathomechanism leads to a HDL phenotype promoting hypertension and likely accelerating atherosclerosis even in incipient CKD that may contribute to elevated cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
