Innovations born within a chemistry lab
„Discoveries are made during inspiring moments in research and teaching. Such discoveries in the field of chemistry and their practical results are the focus of the conference entitled `From Graduation to Innovation´,“ says Prof. Dr. Heinrich Lang.
The event is hosted by his Professorship of Inorganic Chemistry at Technische Universität Chemnitz together with the local section in Chemnitz of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Reaxys, Elsevier. On Tuesday, 24th June 2014, professors, research assistants, doctoral candidates and post-docs, as well as students are warmly invited to join the main lecture hall building of TU Chem-nitz.
From 1 until 6 pm in room N112 five English-language lectures are in the program list. The speakers include Prof. Dr. Martin Jansen (Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research), Prof. Dr. Maksym Kovalenko (ETH Zürich), Jun-Prof. Dr. Peter Wich (Universität Mainz), Dr. Ulrike Obst-Sander (Hoffmann-La Roche AG) and Prof. Dr. Nicholas J. Long (Imperial College London).
„The guest speakers will present current developments in the field of chemistry, which have been reflected in everyday applications. Moreover, they will talk about the personal and scientific backgrounds that made these inventions possible,“ says Prof. Lang.
Another highlight of the program is a Science Slam, where junior scientists have the opportunity to present their research and topics that inspire a wider audience. The application deadline is 1 June 2014. The five best submissions will be able to present their papers during the conference at 5:15 pm. The two winners will receive a MacBook Air or an iPad Air.
To the first conference in the series `From Graduation to Innovation´ last year more than 70 participants came together at Universität Frankfurt/Main. The second session takes place in Chemnitz and is addressed now to an explicitly larger target group – especially universities, colleges and research institutes in Central Germany and in border regions of the Czech Republic and Poland.
