Kent IT Clinic shortlisted for major IT industry award
The awards are given to those whose challenges and achievements deserve recognition and whose thinking has set them apart from the crowd. KITC’s nomination is for the ‘Student project of the year award’ through former student consultant Simon McCarthy.
Simon’s project involved specifying equipment for Rochester Cathedral’s upgrade to their IT System; he also provided staff network support and ensured that the upgrade went smoothly – a role that earned him a personal testimonial from the Right Reverend Adrian Newman, Dean of Rochester Cathedral, thanking him for his attention and dedication to staff needs.
David Soud, Co-ordinator of KITC, said, ‘We are delighted that Simon McCarthy and KITC have been nominated for one of the most sought after awards accreditations in the industry. During his time with KITC, Simon was an outstanding consultant. He always made his clients the first priority, he was hard working, conscientious, an excellent technician and definitely an asset for the KITC.
‘This nomination is also an important acknowledgement of KITC’s role, a key aim of which is to prepare our students to work as IT consultants in industry. This gives them the edge in a very competitive market.’
Launched in October 2005 and based in the Computing Laboratory at the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus, KITC provides high quality, low cost IT support, services and consultancy to SMEs and micro-enterprises in the Canterbury, East Kent and Medway area. The KITC is unique in that its consultants are undergraduate computing students, whose work is mentored and supervised by experienced co-ordinators.
The Computing Awards for Excellence 2006 will take place on 25 October at Battersea Park Events Arena, London.
