GSecurity-Relevant Solutions in the Transport and Logistics Sector
The Forum for Applied Satellite Navigation and Mobile IT Baden-Württemberg e. V. (Forum SatNav MIT BW) is participating in the European Satellite Navigation Competition for the first time this year by sponsoring a special topic prize for security-relevant solutions in the transport and logistics sector.
It seeks market-ready submissions from companies, universities, and research institutes that create value in logistics by means of applications in satellite navigation and mobile IT. Doing so requires both innovations and improvements to existing solutions.
Oberpfaffenhofen, July 9, 2009: With its participation in the European Satellite Navigation Competition, Forum SatNav MIT BW is underscoring its goal of becoming one of the top addresses in satellite navigation and mobile IT. Companies and research institutes in Baden-Württemberg are already producing numerous innovations and developments in these two fields.
“In the 2008 iteration of the European Satellite Navigation Competition, Baden-Württemberg trailed only Taiwan in number of submissions. This shows how well positioned southwest Germany is in satellite navigation and mobile IT. We're also anticipating plenty of contributions this year for the special topic prize on offer from Forum SatNav MIT BW. Satellite navigation is expected to lead to groundbreaking changes in logistics,” confirms Dr Rolf-Jürgen Ahlers of Forum SatNav MIT BW. This opinion is shared by Klaus Haasis, managing director of MFG Baden-Württemberg, which is the German state's innovation agency for IT and media and sponsorship partner for the special topic prize.
The winner will be featured in an exhibition space at POSITIONALE – the international trade fair for satellite positioning, navigation, and telematics – in Stuttgart, Germany, in May 2010. Meanwhile, the first and second runners-up will be presented at an event in Baden-Württemberg. Furthermore, the award winning participants will receive support with the commercialisation of their application ideas through international partners as well as valuable contacts and collaborative opportunities via the strong industrial network of SatNav MIT BW.

Facts and data on the European Satellite Navigation Competition
The European Satellite Navigation Competition is an international innovation contest that awards the best ideas for applications in satellite navigation. The competition has been organised by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen since 2004 and is oriented toward companies, entrepreneurs, research institutes, universities, and private individuals. Having begun with three partner regions, this year's ESNC will be held in 18 high-tech regions all over the world: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Nice / Sophia Antipolis, Prague, South Holland, Madrid, Lombardy, Australia, Taiwan, and Great Britain, as well as newcomers Øresund, Gipuzkoa, Valencia, Switzerland, and Israel.
The ESNC is intended to further strengthen international collaboration among these regions, particular with regard to the development of applications and services made possible by the European satellite navigation system Galileo. The competition is held under the patronage of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology and is supported by Messe München GmbH. The main winners of the ESNC – the GALILEO Master, the special prize winners, and the 18 regional winners – will be recognised at a state reception to be held at the Munich Residenz on October 21, 2009.
