A real, live translator on your mobile phone!
Dualia, located in the Basque town of Aretxabaleta, has developed a system of simultaneous translation via mobile telephone and which is currently the only one of its kind world-wide.
Every company that has contact abroad but is not au fait with the language normally has to make use of an on-the-spot simultaneous interpreter who has to be physically present at all the meetings involving business, etc. With this new service, Dualia makes this situation greatly simpler, providing the client access to translators remotely, using the mobile phone, putting the interlocutors who talk two different languages, into direct touch.
In concrete, the Aretxabaleta company previously provides the client with earphones with two entry and two exit sound leads which are connectable to the mobile phone. When the client is talking to someone speaking a different language, both insert the earphones and connect with Dualia central control who, in turn, redirects the conversation to a translator located in Spain. During the connection, simultaneous interpreter alternates translating the two languages so that the interlocutors have no difficulty understanding each other.
Dualia currently offers simultaneous translation in thirty languages to and from Spanish. Access to translators in English, French, German, or Italian is immediate. For other languages, the client is asked to request the service six hours in advance. It should be taken into account that the person contracting the service might be in a country with quite a different international time zone. Dualia allow simultaneous translation to Basque with members of the public from Japan or Germany. Currently, the Aretxabaleta firm works with two providers which between them have a net of 85 interpreters, although the idea is to expand the net to 300 translators as the business expands.
