OCTUM surface defect inspection

For complex machine vision applications Octum developed the modular inspection system CV 600 with the system software CV-Inspect. Task dependant CV 600 integrates the required number of fixed or mobile 1D, 2D or 3D cameras along with the associated optical systems and lighting.

CV-Inspect system software provides a range of standard machine vision functions for tasks in part identification, 2D/3D measurement and inspection, feature inspection, code and symbol recognition, colour identification, texture analysis etc.

Octum surface inspection systems CV 600 with CV-Inspect automatically check the optical properties of individual parts or of web goods during the production cycle also in 3D (third dimension) if required. The inspection systems are designed for the specific task, for any geometries and materials, to reliably detect material or production-related faults. Typical faults that can be detected on individual parts include dents, pores, chips, pits, discolouration, rust, scratches, grooves, grinding defects etc.

Due to the combination of 2D and 3D inspection techniques, we are able to reduce the pseudo reject rate since we can reliably distinguish dirt form defects like dents and pores even at high speed production lines. The CV 600 surface inspection systems also include comprehensive statistical functions and thus enable weaknesses in production to be located. This allows rapid quality improvements and reductions in waste to be achieved. The systems’ standard interfaces guarantee smooth integration into the production lines.

Typical applications are surface defect inspection of sealing surfaces on engine blocks and cylinder heads, inspection of pistons, piston rings, brake elements, seals, deap drawn parts, quality motor housings as well as web inspection on technical textiles, medical foils and strips. The target industries are automotive and automotive suppliers, metal processing, web manufacturers and the pharmaceutical industry.
