ESTRO 27: European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology Annual Congress
More than 4.500 cancer specialists from all over the world will attend a challenging, state-of-the-art programme in Göteborg this September. Over 500 presentations will highlight advances in radiotherapy and multidisciplinary approaches to the treatment of cancer.
Advances in all aspects of the use and delivery of radiotherapy have improved cancer care for millions of people across Europe, and ESTRO 27 provides the opportunity for specialists to publish their results and debate critically how best to improve care still further through:
Teaching sessions in clinical radiotherapy, brachytherapy, radiobiology, physics and technology,
Joint sessions to maximise the use of multi-disciplinary cancer management,
Presentation of research results and major breakthroughs,
Proffered papers, poster presentations and discussions,
10.000 m2 exhibition of brand new materials, which makes ESTRO 27 – the largest European industrial exhibition in Radiotherapy.
A press conference will be held on the 15th of September 2008 to highlight the major research advances that will be presented during the congress.
Journalists will benefit from a free media registration and have access to all the congress.
A press centre on site will coordinate all the information.
Details about the congress programme and hotel accommodation will be available on the website www.estro27.org.
Radiotherapy is the use of ionising radiation to treat cancer and some non malignant conditions. In many types of cancer, radiotherapy is now the first choice curative treatment, and in others, radiotherapy is used to enhance the effectiveness of surgery or drug based therapy, as well as being used in palliative care to relieve symptoms associated with cancer.
The European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) was founded in 1980 and today, with more than 7.000 members, the society promotes Radiology among all disciplines in cancer treatment and research.
ESTRO provides educational and continuing professional development programmes to oncologists and also disseminates research results, organises meetings and conferences for all professionals involved in delivering Radiotherapy – radio- therapists, biologists, physicists and oncology nurses – to improve patient care.
