Leica Compact System M520 F40: At the head of its class
Leica’s premium optics Leica M520 OptiChrome™ featuring the new Leica F40 compact stand is the perfect answer from Leica Microsystems to the demands of microsurgery. Best view, perfect balance, easy movability, perfect stability and a balanced cost-effectiveness distinguish the microscope system from Leica.
Neurosurgery or otolaryngology surgery or spine surgery require the highest level of expertise and concentration on part of the surgical team. The successful Leica M520 surgical microscope with its exceptional bright Illumination and its outstanding depth of field, which reduces refocusing to a minimum, facilitates this task.
In developing the compact microscope system, Leica Microsystems succeeded in designing a cost- and space-saving solution that optimizes the working environment of microsurgery. The slim design of the Leica F40 stand represents innovation and art in engineering. High – Precision bearings and perfect aligned joints allow for a homogenous mobility that was heretofore reserved for premium systems. If you start to move the new stand for the first time, you will be surprised by its smooth motion. “Smart brakes” and “soft motion” are the magic words of the new technology from Leica Microsystems.
EBS, Soft motion without post oscillation
Even with the large range of the swingarm, the stand remains extremely low in post oscillation. Post oscillation is prevented by the Leica EBS technology (electromagnetic brakes system) on six axes. This allows the microscope system to remain steady, especially during one-hand operation. Comfortable working is ensured by the system’s high flexibility in any possible posture.
A small, solid base forms the stable foundation. Combined with the large all-around handle, any type of positioning at the operating table becomes easy – the stand fits into any surgical environment. The surgeon can perfectly communicate with the team during his work. Xenon illumination and electronics are integrated at the rear and are easily accessible.
Sophisticated interface solutions even allow the Leica M520 F40 to be compatible with Neuronavigation/IGS systems. Yet another factor contributing to its cost-efficiency is the versatile usability. The Leica M520 F40 is particularly suited for multidisciplinary applications which allow it to achieve a maximum degree of utilization. Naturally, the standard equipment of the Leica M520 F40 is already available with all functional benefits.
