The European Commission, Directorate General for Education and Culture, congratulates Umeå University on the award of ICT-LEAP project, coordinated by Dr. Adi Anani. The project assists MEDA partners in accessing EU e-education technologies and opportunities.

The European Commission Head of Unit, Tempus – Erasmus Mundus, Mr. Augusto González, has warmly congratulated the successful application ICT-LEAP, Information and Communication Technologies Learning Pentagram. Apart from Umeå University, the consortium includes the University of Dortmund, Germany, two universities in Palestine and one in Jordan. Two university presidents are directly involved in the project. ICT-LEAP aims at establishing an e-learning educational network of MEDA and EU countries, allowing their universities to cope with each other developments. It will provide technologies and training, and establish e-learning centers. Workshops will be held to cover technical and pedagogical issues. MEDA countries are linking to appropriate global educational possibilities, contributing to regional development and stability. ICT-LEAP is a part of this process and will later expand to other countries and regions.

Dr. Anani acknowledges the support of the Electronic group and Head of Department of Applied Physics and Electronics at Umeå University and the ICT-LEAP consortium. Dr. Regis Cabral assisted in the application writing technicalities.

Tempus, the Trans-European mobility scheme for university studies, enables EU universities to cooperate with those in Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and the Mediterranean partner countries. Established in 1990 after Berlin Wall fall, Tempus has been renewed three times. The Tempus program is meant to enhance the need for understanding between cultures, and for the European Union to work together with its partner countries in all fields.
