Biocatalytic Friedel-Crafts Acylations

This technology provides a biocatalytic method for the regioselective monoacylation of
phenols or aminophenols serving as acyl acceptors in the presence of acyl donor molecules
of the formula R2-C(=O)-R3 and acyl transferase (ATase) enzymes as catalysts. The produced
phenols can be used in different markets, such as cosmetics, aroma (natural), industrial
enzymes (5 billion US$ p.a.), biocatalysis, pharmaceutical industry, agricultural chemistry,
biological pesticides.

UNIST engineers octopus-inspired smart adhesive pads

A team of Korean scientists-made up of scientists from Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and UNIST has recently found a way to make building…

Fast focus regulation during laser beam welding

During laser beam welding the focus position of the laser beam should be on the workpiece surface. With the present invention, this focus position can be detected in relation to the workpiece. Thus, the process can be set up quickly, but also the focus shift could be compensated. Also, this method can prepare the basis for calibrating scanner optics.
