Novel or highly modified genes play a major role in the development of the different castes within ant colonies. Evolutionary biologists at Johannes Gutenberg…
The constantly growing global population and the resulting increase in energy consumption, the foreseeable end of the global petroleum reserves and a need for stagnation or rather a decline of the emissions of greenhouse gas led to a closer focus on alternative energy sources. Especially the production of biofuel out of renewable, cellulosic raw material is constantly being optimized at the moment. One major challenge in this context is the generation of new, highly effective cellulolytic enzymes. Our novel assay, called hydrogel reagent signaling system (HyReS), offers significant advantages, as it enables a straightforward method for analyzing cellulolytic enzymes with a spatially-resolved imaging of cellulose hydrolysis in real-time using a simple fluorescent readout.
The present invention provides a novel method for the production of exopolysaccharides, in particular glucans and fructans. The special feature of method according to the invention is that the production of EPS is a non-recombinant technology, and that the purification of the produced EPS is furthermore possible simply by filtration, centrifugation, ion exchange or dialysis. The result is an enormous yield of high quality EPS in a highly purified form with uniform particle size, which can be used in several areas such as food industry, pharmaceutics, cosmetic industry, paper industry, polymer industry and chemical industry.
