Antiviral therapy for the treatment of acute myocarditis

The inflammation of the heart muscle is usually induced by cardiotropic viruses. The invention is based on the findings, that statins can reduce the expression of the coxsackie-adenovirus receptor on a cellular level and, thus, lead to the reduction of virus replication. Statins are potential antiviral therapeutic agents for viral myocarditis.
