Matrix converter with free wheeling path
For the first time at all the invention „Matrix converter
with switchable free wheeling path“ describes a free wheeling path for a matrix converters. The free wheeling path is switched depending on the oscillating input voltage so that six diodes and six semiconductor switches are parallel to the matrix topology. Thus in any state of operation a free wheeling path can be provided to the inductive load current, which flows when the semiconductor switches of the matrix topology are turned off. This free wheeling path is equivalent to the free wheeling path of a conventional indirect converter. By this innovation an unsafe commutation strategy and an excess voltage protection circuit are not necessary any more, due to the freewheeling path bypassing the energy in case of need independently, so that no damage can occur at the semiconductor switches of the matrix topology.
