Production and Therapeutic use of active Formylglycine-Generating-Enzyme (FGE)

In a collaboration scientists from the University of Göttingen and of the University of Bielefeld developed a procedure for the production of recombinant isolated active eukaryotic full lenght C-alpha Formylglycine-Generating Enzyme (FGE) in selected eukaryotic cells for biotechnological and therapeutic uses.

Furan-Pyren Derivate als OLEDs

Innovative Furane-Pyrene derivatives to be used for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) have been synthesized at the University of Göttingen. They show an increased efficiency of the blue emission spectra and stability during doping and de-doping in polymer films.

Bottom-up method for fluorescence enhancement in single-molecule assays

The invention comprise a method to synergistically integrate bottom-up nano-technology with single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy to create a platform for a single-molecule lab-on-a-chip that enables paralleled investigation of enzyme reactions, binding- and drug-screening assays in confined volumes at biologically relevant concentrations. The method allows the paralleld placement of different molecules at precisley defined positions next to the optical antennas.

Method of determining the degradation of cellulose materials

The constantly growing global population and the resulting increase in energy consumption, the foreseeable end of the global petroleum reserves and a need for stagnation or rather a decline of the emissions of greenhouse gas led to a closer focus on alternative energy sources. Especially the production of biofuel out of renewable, cellulosic raw material is constantly being optimized at the moment. One major challenge in this context is the generation of new, highly effective cellulolytic enzymes. Our novel assay, called hydrogel reagent signaling system (HyReS), offers significant advantages, as it enables a straightforward method for analyzing cellulolytic enzymes with a spatially-resolved imaging of cellulose hydrolysis in real-time using a simple fluorescent readout.

Method for producing exopolysaccharides, products and uses thereof

The present invention provides a novel method for the production of exopolysaccharides, in particular glucans and fructans. The special feature of method according to the invention is that the production of EPS is a non-recombinant technology, and that the purification of the produced EPS is furthermore possible simply by filtration, centrifugation, ion exchange or dialysis. The result is an enormous yield of high quality EPS in a highly purified form with uniform particle size, which can be used in several areas such as food industry, pharmaceutics, cosmetic industry, paper industry, polymer industry and chemical industry.

Tmem16f-deficient mice – A model for studying osteoporosis

During vertebrate skeletal development, osteoblasts produce a mineralized bone matrix by deposition of hydroxyapatite crystals in the extracellular matrix. Anoctamin6/Tmem16F (Ano6) belongs to a conserved family of transmembrane proteins. The gene Ano6 encodes a Ca-activated chloride channel. In addition, Ano6 has been linked to phosphatidylserine (PS) scrambling in the plasma membrane. During skeletogenesis, Ano6 mRNA is expressed in differentiating and mature osteoblasts.
Tmem16f-deficient mice were generated by complete gene deletion.
