New Monoclonal Antibodies Target Human Beta2-Adrenergic Receptor

Scientists at the Georg-August-University generated monoclonal antibodies which specifically react with beta2-adrenergic receptor (b2AR) on human leukocytes and other cells with physiological expression levels of this receptor. b2AR is a prototypic G protein coupled receptor which is activated by catecholamines. It fulfills important roles in the regulation of several organ systems and coordinates functions of the endocrine, neurological and immune system. b2AR mediate glycogenolysis/gluconeogenesis in liver and relaxation of smooth muscle and are important drug targets for a wide variety of cardiovascular, respiratory and other deseases.
