Combined wear-protective and non-stick coatings at the Fraunhofer IST
Especially suitable here are modified diamond-like carbon coatings (DLC), such as, for example, the SICON® coating developed at the Fraunhofer IST, which is a DLC coating modified with silicon and oxygen.
SICON® coatings of this kind have similarly good non-stick properties as the familiar Teflon®, but can offer a much higher wear resistance and heat resistance.
One specific example of an application of this kind of combination of wear protection and non-stick coatings is (industrial) blades.
In commercial and in particular in industrial processing not only does the non-stick aspect play a major role but so also does the wear resistance of the blades since cleaning processes and tool changes alike mean production downtimes.
Examples of blades coated in this way at the Fraunhofer IST can be viewed from April 13 – 17, 2015 at the Hannover Fair (Hall 3, Stand D26).
